The fair displayed an exciting list of emerging technologies available for licensing, in categories relating to green buildings, clean energy, waste management, clean water, photovoltics and power management. Global Entrepreneurship Week

Global Entrepreneurship Week (The Week) is a celebration of innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity. Through a coordinated effort with more than 70 countires, the world will celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit in hopes of inspiring a new generation of young entrepreneurs.

In its annual review of top personalities to watch for the coming year (Volume 323, 2 January 2009), SCIENCE notes the recently opened Fusionopolis that is Singapore’s icon for public and private research in interactive media, physical sciences, engineering, and technology. The magazine says that the challenge for Mr Lim is to help “Singapore make a name for itself in information technologies and engineering the way it has in biomedical research”.
Singapore Research and Development Pushes Forward

Singapore's overall expenditure on research and development (R&D) grew an "unprecedented" 26.5 percent to hit S$6.3 billion (US$4.3 billion) in 2007, the country's Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), announced.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) announced that the government is enhancing its business financing schemes to support an additional S$2.3 billion in loans to help local firms gain access to credit in this current economic slowdown. The enhancements include increasing loan quantums, raising government risk sharing of loan defaults and extending business financing schemes to all local enterprises.

LONG known as a getaway for nature lovers, Pulau Ubin may soon acquire a new reputation — as a model “green” island. The plan calls for the island to be powered entirely by clean and renewable energy. The island’s residents currently run their own diesel-powered generators.

MP Biomedicals LLC, a global life science and diagnostics product manufacturer and supplier, announces the signing of an agreement with A*STAR’s Exploit Technologies on licensing rights for the "Virtual Reaction Chamber" (VRC), a patent portfolio developed by the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (IBN), which covers a revolutionary new way of performing sample preparation and qRT-PCR in a droplet.

16 technology start-ups are now one step closer to bringing their ideas to market. They emerged from more than 200 submissions to win a competitive grant under the Technology Enterprise Commercialisation Scheme (TECS), garnering $6 million grant support for their projects.

The National Research Foundation (NRF) announced today that it has made available S$75 million to support proof-of-concept grants (POC scheme). These grants are available to institutes of higher learning, public research institutes and SMEs to support proof-of-concept development and aims to encourage R&D into new ideas with the view towards commercialisation.
